Established in 1886, Fort Myers nestles along the scenic shoreline of the Caloosahatchee River in Lee County near Sanibel Island.  Ft. "Ding" Darling National Wildlife Refuge where visitors can explore the 5-mile wildlife mangrove, bay and estuary by car, bike, or on foot, is now toured by more than 750,000 people a year.
