Sanibel Island has always concerned itself with conservation and living in harmony with nature.  Visitors who are interested in pristine, non commercial beaches tend to visit and revisit the area's beautiful surroundings.  Sanibel Beach is still ranked first in the U.S. for the number of varieties of seashells.  Consequently, a visit to the Bailey Matthews Shell Museum is a must for any seashell enthusiast.   The J.N. "Ding" Darling National Wildlife Refuge where visitors can explore the 5-mile wildlife mangrove, bay and estuary by car, bike, or on foot, is now toured by more than 750,000 people a year.  Residents work hard to preserve the beauty of Sanibel and its neighbor, Captiva.  Sanibel is it's an encounter with Natural Florida you won't forget.
